RaceTrac Petroleum, Inc. was originally called Carl Bolch Trackside Stations and was started in 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri by Carl Bolch. In 1959, Bolch expanded his company when he acquired the Oil Well Company (which had numerous outlets across the state of Alabama).
Bolch’s son, Carl Bolch Jr., joined the company in 1967 and helped pioneer the idea of self-service gasoline throughout Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. In 1976, the company relocated its headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia and began operating its station under the name RaceTrac. Currently, there are also stations run by the company under the name RaceWay.
In 2012, RaceTrac introduced RT6K, a 6,000-square foot store that features indoor and outdoor seating, free wi-fi internet, and frozen yogurt. Today, the company operates over 320 locations throughout Louisiana, Georgia, Texas, Mississippi, and Florida and offers its own RaceTrac gas card.
